Gruben is part of the municipality of Saanen . It is located on the eastern slope of the Saan Valley between and Saanen, at the foot of the plateau where Schönried and Saanemösser are located. It is best known for the station of the same name on the Montreux – Berner Oberland Railway (MOB).

There is also a schoolhouse in pits.

The alternative point Gruben of the Montreux – Bernese Oberland Railway is located between Schönried and Gstaad . It is located in the municipality of Saanen. It has a through track and a siding and is a demand stop (stop on demand).

At the same time, there is a MOB substation in pits , which also serves as a station building. Here the supplied alternating current is converted into direct current. When it was built, an 8000 volt transmission line was built, which led here from the electricity company ( EEF ) in Montbovon . Since it was built in 1905, the required 860 volts DC voltage has been produced by the electricity company Alioth (EGA) Münchenstein and a single- armature converter from Sécheron Geneva using two two-armature converters. The two rotating converters were reinforced in 1929 by a 600 kW mercury vapor converter, which made it possible to feed energy back into the alternating current network. A further increase in power was necessary in 1944-46 to ensure the power supply. Because the newly delivered railcars 3001–3004 (1944) and 3005–3006 (1946) required much more energy than the old ones. This was done by installing another 600 kW mercury vapor rectifier from Merkur.

The old rotating converters have been preserved to this day.
