Luxembourg City, Grund highlighted

Grund ( Luxembourgish Gronn ) is a district of the city of Luxembourg .

The lower towns of Grund, Clausen and Pfaffenthal , which were already inhabited in early times, stretch along the banks of the Alzette . Above all, craftsmen who used the river's water to pursue their trade settled here.

In the reason are the Neumünster Abbey with the Johanneskirche and the National Museum of Natural History. From 1869, the Luxembourg City prison was housed in the former abbey. After this was relocated in 1984, the entire area stood empty and fell into disrepair. The restoration began in 1994. This should last ten years. Since 2004 Neumünster Abbey has been the jewel of the lower towns. It became an international cultural center in which more than a thousand events take place every year.

In Pfaffenthal, the two Vauban towers and in Clausen the house where Robert Schuman , the "father of European thought", was born should be emphasized.
