The village of Grunern is a district of Staufen im Breisgau in the foothills of the southern Black Forest , at the exit of the Münstertal into the Staufener Bay facing the Rhine, and has 965 inhabitants.

geography

In addition to the actual village, Grunern also includes the hamlets Etzenbach and Kropbach, which are on the border with Münstertal , as well as the Hohacker, Sahlenbach, Schleifsteinhof and Schöneck farms. The street village has a curved and bent main settlement axis. In the west, cross streets run south.

Tracks of the disused line with the former station restaurant of Grunern

Today's Münstertalbahn was first opened in 1894 with a line from Bad Krozingen to Sulzburg . To the west of this branch line, the town's industrial and commercial area was built. Passenger traffic on this line ended in 1969. After the insolvency of the industrial company still connected in Grunern in 1996, operations on this remnant section were also discontinued and most of the remaining tracks were dismantled.

Grunern is on the beggar path .

history

The place is first mentioned in 1144. People settled here much earlier, because the first document already speaks of “Gruonre cum ecclesia”, ie the place itself with the church, which cannot have been the first building. The hamlet of Kropbach was also inhabited as early as 1028, as can be seen in an imperial document about the miners mining for silver ore there. The place name Gruonre, Groira, Grunr is not interpreted according to form and content.

The bailiwick was owned by the Lords of Staufen as early as 1283 . After their dynasty died out in 1602, rulership reverted to Habsburg Front Austria , under whose sovereignty the place had been since the 15th century. In 1628 it was pledged together with Staufen at Schauenburg and in 1738 lent to the St. Blasien monastery , which promoted the place a lot: the bear bath was expanded, the elementary school system was promoted and the school building was built. In Baden time Grunern belonged to the district office of Staufen, since 1936 to the district office / district of Müllheim. In 1974 it was incorporated into Staufen.
