Grupo SGO is a transport company in Angola . It is based in Viana , a city in the metropolitan area of the capital Luanda .

history

The company was founded in 2003 by the two Angolan companies Sunninvest and Gênesis together with the originally Brazilian Grupo Odilon Santos . The name is derived from the three first letters.

The company operates local bus routes in Luanda and intercity bus routes , in particular to a number of provincial capitals. In addition, the company is active in garbage collection .

The company sees further growth opportunities, particularly in passenger transport between the provinces of Angola, with the continuous improvement of the infrastructure and ongoing consolidation of the economic and social situation in Angola since the end of the Angolan civil war in 2002.

In the urban area of Luanda, the SGO is the most important operator of local public transport after the state Transportes Colectivos Urbanos de Luanda (TCUL). Together with the transport company Macon , SGO is also the largest provider of long-distance bus services in Angola.

In April 2014, SGO employees went on temporary strike to claim the outstanding wages of 1,800 of the company's more than 2,000 employees.

In August 2018, the Ministry of Finance announced in a letter to all transport companies the immediate end of the subsidies for fares for inner-city bus transport. The company then ceased operations and is in liquidation. In January 2019, the employees again demanded the payment of their salaries, which they have not received since August 2017.
