The Guadaíra is a river in the province of Seville in Andalusia , in southern Spain . Its name has the same root word guad as the much larger Guadalquivir river . The word root comes from the Arabic word wādī , which means "river valley".

The river runs through the town of Alcalá de Guadaíra in the southeastern area of Seville . The upper water intake of the river is to the east and southeast of the city. The river flows below and south of Seville as a left tributary into the Guadalquivir. On the south side of the river, near the city, is the large Oromana Park.

Large amounts of foam and an unpleasant smell are not uncommon on this river in winter. The river was polluted for many years with the by-products of olive oil cultivation and other waste materials. Still, the river is a refuge for wild animal life; the banks of the river are lined with trees and are partly parks and forests. In recent years, the provincial government of Andalusia has been able to improve the ecology of the Guadaíra considerably. An exhibition in the Peru pavilion of an exhibition (the Las Americas of 1929) in Seville gives evidence of this.
