Guangzhou South Station ( Chinese  广州 南 站 , Pinyin Guǎngzhōunán Zhàn ) is a long-distance train station in Guangzhou in the Chinese province of Guangdong . The station opened in 2010 as part of China's high-speed program and is the largest station in the People's Republic of China by area .

description

The Südbahnhof has 15 platforms with 28 tracks and extends over an area of 615,000 m², of which 486,000 m² are in the station hall. This has several levels: across the tracks is a large, long waiting room; This is also where the security checks customary in Chinese high-speed traffic take place. Below the platform there are ticket counters, parking lots, a bus station and the Guangzhou Metro stop . The train station is located around 17 kilometers southeast of Guangzhou city center . The station is connected to the city via the metro; the terminus of line 2 is below the station.

The South Railway Station was opened in 2010 with the start of operations on the Wuhan-Guangzhou section of the Beijing-Guangzhou high-speed line. The investment volume was 13 million yuan , so the construction costs are in the order of magnitude of the Shanghai Hongqiao train station .

Importance for traffic

The Guangzhou South Railway Station is the southern end point of the Beijing – Guangzhou high- speed line, which can be traveled at up to 350 km / h. This railway line is the busiest high-speed line in China and has around twice as many passengers a year as, for example, the Beijing-Shanghai high-speed line . Furthermore, there are connections from Guangzhou to the two special administrative areas Hong Kong and Macau . The projected capacity of the Guangzhou South Railway Station is 80.1 million passengers annually. This makes the Guangzhou South Station the second largest station in China by capacity after the Beijing South Station .
