The guanylyl cyclases ( GC abbreviation , also known as guanylate cyclases ) are enzymes that catalyze the conversion of guanosine triphosphate (GTP) into 3'-5'-cyclic guanosine monophosphate ( cGMP ) with cleavage of a pyrophosphate residue .
