Jedi Mind Tricks is an American hip hop group from Philadelphia . Their name is derived from the Star Wars films in which the Jedi can influence other living beings with their thoughts. Jedi Mind Tricks currently consists of MC Vinnie Paz and producer Stoupe the Enemy of Mankind. At times the MC Jus Allah also belonged to the group. The duo (or trio) is one of the most prominent representatives of underground hip-hop.
history
In 1991 the rapper Vinnie Paz (then still under the pseudonym Ikon the Hologram, later The Answer of Birth) and the producer Stoupe The Enemy of Mankind began to make music together with the rapper Jus Allah alias Megatraum. After Jus Allah left Philadelphia in 1995 to attend college, the remaining duo released their first demos under the band name Jedi Mind Tricks, which was invented in 1993 and is still used today. The Army of the Pharaohs project was founded together with Bahamadia , 7L & Esoteric, Virtuoso and Chief Kamachi . In 1996 the first single was released as a duo Jedi Mind Tricks, in 1997 the first album with the title The Psycho-Social, Chemical, Biological & Electro-Magnetic Manipulation of Human Consciousness on the own label Superegular Recordings. After graduating from college, Jus Allah returned to the group. As a trio they established themselves in the Philly underground, in particular through the second album Violent by Design , which was released by Babygrande in 2000 , one of the most important independent records of the genre. The album received critical acclaim worldwide; The German trade press also expressed benevolence and described the release as “an all-round perfect album [...] that lyrically and musically set new standards in every respect”. After the album was released, Jus Allah left the group, so that the three following albums Visions of Gandhi (2003), Legacy of Blood (2004) and Servants in Heaven, Kings in Hell (2006) were largely created without his collaboration. Jus Allah returned to the group for the album A History of Violence (2008).
In 2011 Vinnie Paz announced that producer Stoupe the Enemy of Mankind had left the group to pursue other music projects. The album Violence Begets Violence from that year was the first album of the group without the beats of Stoupe. Shortly before work on the follow-up album The Thief and The Fallen , producer Stoupe came back to the combo, but rapper Jus Allah left the group after renewed differences of opinion. That split in 2015 led to many disputes between Jus Allah and the remaining duo on the short message platform Twitter , on which Jus Allah u. a. who in his opinion blasphemed the poor quality of the new album.
By adding Jedi Mind Tricks presents ... to publications by related hip-hop artists, Jedi Mind Tricks helped the duo Outerspace and the rappers Doap Nixon and King Syze to break through.
Vinnie Paz and Stoupe are also still members of the Army of the Pharaohs project , which currently includes 7L & Esoteric, Celph Titled, Apathy , Reef the Lost Cauze , Outerspace, Faez One, Des Devious, King Syze and Chief Kamachi .
