Gudrun Schmidt-Kärner

Gudrun Schmidt-Kärner (born May 24, 1941 in Braunschweig ) is a German professor of music education.

Life

Between 1958 and 1961, Gudrun Schmidt-Kärner trained as an educator in Berlin. She then worked as an educator in families, children's homes and children's clinics in France , Finland , Hamburg and Göttingen .

After working in music theaters (1965–1975) in Coburg, Hildesheim and Lübeck, Gudrun Schmidt-Kärner began studying in 1975 at the Lübeck University of Music. In 1977 she graduated with a major in “Early Musical Education and Basic Training” and worked from 1978 to 2011 at various educational institutions as a teacher for music education. In 1996 she was awarded the title of professor by the Schleswig-Holstein Ministry of Education, Science, Research and Culture.

From 1990 to 2012 Gudrun Schmidt-Kärner was on the board of the Association for Youth Education and Economic Relations North Germany-Kaliningrad eV, which she co-founded . She was a board member (1990–1996) of the international specialist group “Early Childhood Music Education” in the International Society for Music Education (ISME) and a board member (1989–2001) of the German Unitarian Religions Community

From 2001 to 2006 she was the advisor for relations with Kaliningrad at the Schleswig-Holstein state parliament.

She is widowed and has two children.

Awards

In November 1998 she was awarded the European Women Prize 1999 by the European Movement Germany with the support of the European Commission .

In 2002 she was awarded the Medal of Merit and in 2019 the Cross of Merit on Ribbon of the Order of Merit of the Federal Republic of Germany .
