Guido Barilla

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Guido Maria Barilla (born July 30, 1958 in Parma ) is an Italian entrepreneur in the food industry. He is the CEO of the international pasta manufacturer Barilla .

Life

Guido Barilla is the son of Pietro Barilla junior , a grandson of the company founder of the same name. He has three siblings: Luca, Paolo and Emanuela, all of whom have taken on responsibilities in the family business.

Guido Barilla attended high school in Parma, then studied philosophy. In 1982 he joined the family company's subsidiary Barilla France. From 1984 he expanded his knowledge by working for various food companies in the United States. After his return he was responsible for the international expansion of the Barilla Group and received a seat on the board of directors of Barilla Holding. In 1988 he became deputy chairman of the holding company's board of directors, and has been its president since his father's death in 1993. He is also President of the core company of the Barilla Group, the public limited company "Barilla G. e R. fratelli". From the year 2000 he was responsible for education and training at the Italian employers ' association Confindustria for two years .

In 2013, Guido Barilla conducted an interview with the Italian broadcaster Radio24, the operator of which is majority owned by Confindustria. He said the company would never advertise homosexuals and if they didn't like it, they should buy pasta from other manufacturers. This statement led to international protests and calls for boycotts. He then made it clear that although he thinks differently from homosexuals, respects them and gay marriages, but the advertising target group of his company is the classic family, in which women play a fundamental role.

In his role as head of the company, Guido Barilla also heads the family's own collection of modern art, which Pietro Barilla founded (not to be confused with the porcelain collection of Giovanni and Gabriella Barilla).

Guido Barilla has two children from his first marriage to Federica Marchini (sister of the polo player, entrepreneur and politician Alfio Marchini ) and three children from his later marriage to Nicoletta Marassi. He lives temporarily in Switzerland.
