Guido Pizarro is a Chilean astronomer and asteroid explorer.
Pizarro was working at the European Southern Observatory (ESO) when he took a picture in the constellation microscope on September 24, 1975 as part of a mapping project for the southern sky . On this photo plate Richard Martin West discovered the first trace of the Great Comet C / 1975 V1 (West) on November 5th .
Between 1979 and 1996 Pizarro discovered a total of eight asteroids at the La Silla Observatory ( IAU code 809) , most of them together with Eric Walter Elst .
He is the co-discoverer of the asteroid (7968) Elst-Pizarro , which shows a comet-like behavior and is therefore also listed with the number 133P / Elst-Pizarro.
Honors
The asteroid (4609) Pizarro was named after him and his brother Oscar , with whom he works at the La Silla Observatory.
