Gary W. Kronk

Gary W. Kronk (born March 23, 1956 ) is an American amateur astronomer .

Life

Gary W. Kronk received his Bachelor of Science degree in journalism from Southern Illinois University in Edwardsville , Illinois in 1981 . Since 1985 he has worked as a programmer / analyst at Washington University in St. Louis . Kronk is married for the second time and has 2 sons from the first marriage.

Kronk had an interest in astronomy from a young age , but the decisive factor for his later publications was the observation of comet C / 1973 E1 (Kohoutek) . In 1999 he was allowed to participate in the Leonid MAC (Multi-Instrument Aircraft Campaign) of NASA and United States Air Force , which examined the Leonids over Western Europe and the Atlantic Ocean .

In 2004, the Minor Planet Center (MPC) of the International Astronomical Union (IAU) announced that the asteroid (48300) Kronk was named after Kronk because of its work on cometography.
