The Hellyer River is a river in the northwest of the Australian state of Tasmania .
geography
River course
The river has its source about two and a half kilometers northwest of the Painter Plain settlement and initially flows in a westerly direction. After about four kilometers, it turns to the north, passes under about 17 kilometers northeast of Waratah the Mount Road and turns its course to the northwest. It flows through a gorge in the Hellyer Gorge State Reserve and passes under the Murchison Highway at the end of it, at the settlement of Hellyer Gorge . About five kilometers northeast of the Savage River National Park it flows into the Arthur River .
