The Pulicat Lake ( Telugu : Pulicat Sarassu పులికాట్ సరస్సు , Tamil : Pazhaverkadu Eri பழவேற்காடு ஏரி ) is the second largest brackish water - Lagoon in India . It spans the border between the Indian states of Andhra Pradesh and Tamil Nadu on the Coromandel Coast in southern India. It is almost entirely covered by the Bay of Bengal through the island of Sriharikotaseparated but still connected to the sea. The lake is home to a unique fauna. Pulicat Lake is named after the town Pulicat (Pazhaverkadu) at its southern end , which was a Dutch colony from 1609 to 1825 . The Satish Dhawan Space Center is located on Sriharikota Island .

The Pulicat Lake Bird Sanctuary is a bird sanctuary around the lagoon. Between March and October of each year, the area is populated by thousands of birds. Among the numerous bird species, the flamingos with their pink plumage stand out.
