Arani is a country town in the Cochabamba department in the South American Andean state of Bolivia .

Location in the vicinity

Arani is the seat of the administration of the eponymous province of Arani and the central place of the district ( Bolivian : Municipio ) Arani . The village is located in the fertile plain of the Vallo Alto at an altitude of 2747  m directly on the edge of the Cordillera Oriental , which rises to over 3,600 m immediately east of Arani.

Arani lies in the transition area between the Andes mountain range of the Cordillera Central and the Bolivian lowlands.

The mean average temperature of the region is around 18 ° C (see climate diagram Cochabamba) and fluctuates only slightly between 14 ° C in June / July and 20 ° C in October / November. The annual precipitation is only around 450 mm, with a pronounced dry season from May to September with monthly precipitation below 10 mm, and a humidity period from December to February with 90 to 120 mm monthly precipitation.

Transport network

Arani is located 55 kilometers by road southeast of Cochabamba , the capital of the department of the same name.

From Cochabamba the paved road Ruta 7 leads in a south-easterly direction 41 kilometers to San Benito , from there a dirt road further south-east via Punata to Arani .

Arani is also connected to Cochabamba by a railway line.

Due to the historical population distribution, the region has a high proportion of Quechua population, in the Municipio Arani 95.8 percent of the population speak the Quechua language.
