Guigo II.
Guigo II , also Guigo the Carthusian , (* before 1174 ; † April 6, 1193 ) was a monk in the Great Charterhouse .
Life
In 1174 he was elected prior . In 1180 he resigned from office. On April 6, 1193 he died in a reputation for holiness. After his death he is said to have worked various miracles and thereby led pilgrims to the Charterhouse . In order to restore the usual tranquility in the monastery, the then prior Jancelinus is said to have forbidden him to work further miracles. Further details from Guigo's life are not known. He became known for his work Scala claustralium , in which he describes the lectio divina prayer method widely used in monasticism .
