Guilherme de Azevedo

Guilherme Avelino Chaves de Azevedo (born November 30, 1839 in Santarém , Portugal , † April 6, 1882 in Paris , France ) was a Portuguese journalist and poet .

life and work

Guilherme de Azevedo graduated from high school in Santarém, after which he became editor-in-chief of a magazine there and later went to Lisbon , where he became part of the cultural renewal movement Generação de 70 . He worked there as a journalist for other newspapers and magazines such as Diario de Manhã and others.

In 1864 he published his first poem in an almanac in 1864 .

In 1880 he went to Paris as a correspondent for a Brazilian newspaper, where he died in 1882.

The influence of Lamartine , Victor Hugo and Cesário Verde can be felt in his work . All his life he was in poor health.
