Georges Charles Guillain (born March 3, 1876 in Rouen , † June 29, 1961 in Paris ) was a French neurologist .

Life

Guillain studied medicine first in his hometown, later in Paris. In 1902 he received his doctorate . From 1923 to 1947 Guillain held the chair of neurology at the Hôpital Salpêtrière in Paris as the successor to his teacher, the famous neurologist Pierre Marie (1853-1940). In 1951 he became a member of the Académie des Sciences .

Services

In 1916, together with Jean-Alexandre Barré and André Strohl, he described Guillain-Barré polyradiculitis , which today is the most important cause of acute paralysis as a result of inflammation .
