Guillaume Lebrun
Guillaume Lebrun (born March 10, 1674 in Paris ; † March 7, 1758 ibid) was a French Jesuit, classical philologist, Romanist and lexicographer.
life and work
Lebrun entered the Jesuit order in 1690 and became prefect and Latin teacher in various Jesuit colleges . In 1756 he published a rich French-Latin dictionary, which had three editions by 1770. Further conditions were prevented by the repeal of the Jesuit order in 1773.
The Lebrun Dictionary is at the end of a long series of French-Latin dictionaries by the Jesuits Philibert Monet , Charles Pajot , François-Antoine Pomey , Pierre Delbrun , Jean Gaudin , Guy Tachard and Joseph Joubert .
