Guillaume III. de Menthonay († 9 / 10. July 1406 ) was 1394-1406 Bishop of Lausanne .

Life

Guillaume was first mentioned in 1361 and comes from the family of the Lords of Menthonay, who had their ancestral seat at Truchet Castle near Menthonnex-en-Bornes in Savoy . From 1380 he was under the tutelage of his uncle, the later Cardinal Jacques de Menthonay , who promoted his spiritual career. He became a canon in Thérouanne in 1382 , in Lausanne in 1386 , in Reims in 1387 and in Paris in 1388 . In 1394 he was appointed Bishop of Lausanne by Pope Clement VII from Avignon . The candidate of the Roman Pope Boniface IX. , Johann Münch von Landskron , could not assert himself in the diocese. In 1397 he reached Benedict XIII. the union of the canons' priory of Saint-Marie with the episcopal canteen and began with the priory on the mountain above Lausanne with the construction of a new episcopal castle, the Château Saint-Maire .
