Guillermo Escalada (born April 24, 1936 in Montevideo ) is a former Uruguayan football player .

Career

society

The "Chongo" called left winger , who was not one of the fastest players on his team, but was distinguished by his powerful shot, began his career at Nacional in 1951. In 1953 he won the championship with the Tercera team . In 1954 he made his debut under Ondino Viera in the first team and played for the "Bolsos" until 1962. In the period from 1951 to 1958 he scored a total of 108 goals in his missions. Other sources name a total of 118 goals in the Nacionals jersey. He was involved in winning three championships (1955, 1956, 1957). He then moved to Argentina to Gimnasia y Esgrima de La Plata , where he completed 25 games from 1964 to 1965, in which he scored three goals. After that, at the end of his career in 1966, he was still active for the Uruguayan club Montevideo Wanderers . In addition, a career station in Venezuela at Deportivo Galicia is reported without a precise chronological order .

National team

With the junior national team of Uruguay he took part in the Junior South American Championship in 1954 and won the title with this team. During the tournament he was used four times (one goal) by coach Gerardo Spósito . Escalada was also a member of the senior national team of Uruguay for which he completed 30 internationals between March 30, 1955 and August 15, 1962, in which he scored eleven international goals. In 1962 he was part of the Uruguayan squad at the World Cup . There are also four tournaments at the Copa America . His team was able to win the title in 1956 and 1959 (there the second tournament of the year). In the tournaments in 1955 and 1959 (first tournament) one reached the fourth and sixth place.
