Guillermo León Valencia
Guillermo León Valencia Muñóz (born April 27, 1909 in Popayán , † November 4, 1971 in New York ) was a Colombian lawyer and politician. He was President of Colombia from 1962 to 1966 .
Life
Guillermo León Valencia was the son of the writer and politician Guillermo Valencia and his wife Josefina Muñóz . The trained lawyer studied at the University of Cauca and graduated there in 1926. He began his political career in the city council of his birthplace Popayán and later in the city council of Bogotá . Other stations included the position of ambassador to the United Nations , later as ambassador to Spain. He rejected his first appointment as Foreign Minister in 1949, but briefly took up this post in 1953. Guillermo León Valencia was a member of the Colombian Conservative Party from 1962 to 1966 and stood for this in the 1962 presidential elections, which he won against Alfonso López Michelsen . He was President of Colombia from 1962 to 1966.
