Guillermo Ortiz Camargo (born June 25, 1939 in Mexico City , † December 17, 2009 ), also known by the nickname Chato or Chatito , was a Mexican football player in the position of the striker .

biography

Guillermo Ortiz began as a child in the position of full-back , played as a young man in midfield and acted later than the left striker.

He joined his home club at the age of 13 because his father Marcial "El Ranchero" Ortiz , who also played for Necaxa , put him in the youth department.

Chato Ortiz made his debut in Mexico's Primera División in 1957 in a game against Atlas .

In the 2-1 victory over the Netherlands on April 19, 1961 Ortiz ran for the first time for the national team . His first international goal was the "golden goal" for the 1-0 win against Colombia on April 1, 1962. Ortiz was also appointed to the Mexican World Cup squad in 1962 , but was not used due to injury. He scored his only "double" in the national team's dress on March 28, 1963 in an 8-0 win against Jamaica. He made his last international match two days later in a goalless encounter with Costa Rica.

After hanging up his football boots, he discovered his love for American football and was also active in this sport. He also worked as a wood turner and began studying engineering .

In December 2009, Guillermo Ortiz died of throat cancer .
