Gulpilhares is a place and a former municipality ( freguesia ) in northwestern Portugal .

Gulpilhares belongs to the Vila Nova de Gaia county in the Porto district . The community had an area of ​​5.5 km² and 11,279 inhabitants (as of June 30, 2011).

On September 29, 2013, the municipalities of Gulpilhares and Valadares were merged to form the new municipality of União das Freguesias de Gulpilhares e Valadares .
