Christopher Wernitznig (born February 24, 1990 in Villach ) is an Austrian football player on the position of a striker . He has been under contract with the Bundesliga club Wolfsberger AC since summer 2014 .

Career

Wernitznig began his career in the youth team of ATUS Nötsch in Carinthia , where he began playing football in 1997. In 2004 he moved to the youth department of SK Sturm Graz , which he left in 2005 for Villacher SV . Until 2007 he was with the Villachers in the youth, before he was brought into the first team.

The left midfielder made his debut in a first team on May 25, 2007 in the Kärntner Liga (fourth highest Austrian division) against SC Landskron. In total, he came to four missions and one goal in his first season. In 2007/08 he made 29 appearances in 30 games and scored four goals. The VSV finished eighth in the final table. In the following season Wernitznig moved one class higher and was brought into the SV Spittal / Drau squad. There the left midfielder played in the Regionalliga mid-20s and scored once. Then he returned to Villach and played a season and a half with VSV. When he scored ten goals in 16 games in the autumn 2010/11 season, he was signed by Bundesliga promoted Wacker Innsbruck . At first he was used by the amateurs. He made his Bundesliga debut on April 16, 2011 against Rapid Vienna when he came on for Thomas Bergmann in the 81st minute . The home game was lost 3-0.

In the 2011/12 season Wernitznig was the most dangerous player in Innsbruck with eight goals. After the relegation of Wacker Innsbruck in the 2013/14 season, Christopher Wernitznig moved back to Carinthia and signed a contract with Wolfsberger AC until 2016. In his first game for the "Wolves" he scored a brace against FC Admira Wacker Mödling .
