Michael Liendl (born October 25, 1985 in Graz ) is an Austrian football player on the position of midfielder .
Career
The midfielder began his career in his Vorarlberg home in Nenzing . In 2002 he moved from FC Thuringia to the amateur team of the Grazer AK . It was there that he made his first short appearances in the Bundesliga team in 2003.
The final move to the professional camp took place in the 2004 spring season. Liendl initially switched to the then second-class Kapfenberger SV on loan , from which he was acquired during the following summer break. With Kapfenberg Liendl achieved promotion to the Bundesliga in the 2008/09 season , in which he played a major role with 18 goals and numerous assists. After that season he was voted the best player in the second division by the Association of Footballers . His contract with Obersteirern ran until 2010, but Liendl preferred to change during the summer break before the 2009/10 season, which is why the contract was terminated.
From the beginning of the 2009/10 season , Liendl played in the federal capital at FK Austria Wien . There he scored his first goal for the Viennese on his fourth appearance. After being substituted on for Milenko Ačimovič in the 82nd minute of the game against LASK Linz , he made himself a birthday present on October 25, 2009 and scored the 3-0 final score with a direct free kick just four minutes after being substituted on. After three years with Austria, he moved to Wolfsberger AC in Carinthia at the beginning of the 2012/13 season . On January 31, 2014 Fortuna Düsseldorf announced the commitment of Liendl with a contract until June 30, 2016. On May 24th he was called up for the first time by Marcel Koller in the squad of the Austrian national team. He came on as a substitute for Andreas Ivanschitz in the 63rd minute against the Czech Republic, making his debut for Austria. After the fourth match day of the 2015/16 season , Liendl moved to second division competitor TSV 1860 Munich , where he received a two-year contract. After relegation from the 2nd Bundesliga in the 2016/17 season , Liendl left the club.
On August 14, 2017, Liendl signed a contract with the Dutch first division club FC Twente Enschede . For the 2018/19 season he returned to Wolfsberger AC, where he received a contract that ran until June 2019. At the beginning of May 2019, he extended his contract prematurely until summer 2021.
