Career

Atan in the dress of SV Mattersburg against Michael Liendl

Atan, who played in the right attacking midfield, began his career at 1. Wiener Neustädter SC , from where he moved to the amateur division of SK Rapid Wien . After falling out of favor with Rapid, he moved to Styria to TSV Hartberg , from where he moved to SV Mattersburg in January 2006 . He got in the headlines not only because of his sporting achievements, but also because of his excessive nightlife and fights off the pitch.

Atan made his Bundesliga debut on February 18, 2006 against Rapid Vienna. He was replaced in the 86th minute for René Wagner . His greatest success so far was reaching the 2006 cup final.

The Turkish top club Beşiktaş Istanbul became aware of Atan in the summer of 2008 and offered SV Mattersburg a transfer fee of € 750,000, but since they had already planned long-term with Atan (his contract ends on June 30, 2010), the offer was rejected.

In the summer of 2010 he moved to Turkey and signed with Gençlerbirliği Ankara .

After half a year with only one league appearance, his contract was terminated by mutual agreement, after which he moved back to Austria to LASK Linz .

Atan returned to Turkey in the summer of 2012 and signed with the third division club Kızılcahamamspor . He left this club after half a season and moved within the league to Fethiyespor . Here he was with his team playoff winner of the TFF 2nd Lig and rose to the TFF 1st Lig .

In spring 2014 Atan moved to the third division Gümüşhanespor . After only six months at Gümüşhanespor, his contract was prematurely terminated in June 2014. From then on, Cem Atan kept fit at FC AMS, a soccer camp for unemployed professionals. In January 2015 he was finally taken under contract by SKN St. Pölten, who initially planned him for the amateur team.

National team

Atan made his debut in the Austrian national team on March 28, 2007 in Paris against France . Another game followed. After that, his national team career came to an abrupt end due to some incidents off the pitch.
