Career

Michael Novak began his career at FC St. Veit , where he laced his first football boots in 1997. In 2008 he was brought to the Carinthian first team and made his Regionalliga Mitte debut on August 29, 2008 against ASK Voitsberg when he came on for Sebastian Hertelt at half time. The game ended 3: 3. After two more years at FC St. Veit, he moved to the second team of FK Austria Wien in 2010 . With the Austria amateurs, Novak became autumn champion in the Regionalliga Ost in 2012. Then the Bundesliga club SV Mattersburg became aware of Novak and signed him in January 2013.

The defender made his debut in the top Austrian league on February 23, 2013 against FC Wacker Innsbruck when he played through and owed the 0: 1 in the 0: 2 defeat with an own goal. He remained a regular until he tore a ligament in his ankle in May 2013 . Mattersburg was relegated from the Bundesliga at the end of the season.

After his injury healed, Novak soon fought his way back to his regular position on the left side of the defense. On the 15th matchday of the 2014/15 season, Novak scored his first goal in the SV Mattersburg jersey to take the 3-2 lead in the game against SC Austria Lustenau . With SV Mattersburg in 2016, he made it back to Austria's top division, the Bundesliga, as champions of the "First League". Novak established himself as a left defender, but is also repeatedly used as a right-back and in the right midfield.

For the 2018/19 season he switched to league rivals Wolfsberger AC , with whom he received a contract that ran until June 2020.
