Gummibär is the joint music project of the two producers Major Bad Moritz and Christian André Schneider. The two became known in 2006 through the Euro House track Ich bin dein Gummibär .
background
To market the song, a 3D animated cartoon character of a green gummy bear was created. In autumn 2006, the two German television stations Nick and Super RTL added this character to their programs as background music for the commercials. The song was released as a single in early October 2006. However, public awareness remained low.
A profile for the gummy bear was then created in the MySpace online community . The song was offered for viewing in eight different languages (German, English, Slovak, French, Swedish, Spanish, Portuguese and Hungarian). On the platform, it quickly developed into one of the most watched videos. This success prompted the television broadcaster RTL II to enter into a cooperation with the inventor of the figure, who has been using it for self-marketing since the beginning of 2007. The ringtone provider Jamba! the gummy bear in his program, which resulted in a Czech version through a Jamba branch in the Czech Republic : Jsem pouze z gumy méd'a . In February 2007 the single came on the market again and reached the German single charts with the help of advertising. The song was subsequently released in Russian, Polish, Irish and Hebrew.
Despite the rather mediocre commercial success of the single, the gummy bear was able to maintain its popularity on YouTube and similar video platforms in the following years . Numerous remixes and remix videos were released that, contrary to the usual strategy of the music industry, were not blocked or deleted and thus contributed to the continued dissemination of the song and the figure. The German version of Ich bin dein Gummibär has been viewed more than 48 million times on YouTube. The record company's press releases even speak of a billion clicks. The continued distribution and demand for the song prompted the producers to produce an album with numerous cover versions of well-known hits in 2010, as well as the re-release of the track I'm your gummy bear in new mixes. The single was able to reach the German charts again in early September. The album was released on September 3, 2010.
