In the first ballot, she received the fourth-best result with 6,570 votes (6.66 percent), which was not enough for the runoff election on September 27, 2015. Controversy about their attitude towards the GDR

In a broadcast by Report Mainz shortly after the state elections in 2010 , Booth's attitude towards the GDR was pointed out. In an interview, she replied to the question of whether the GDR was an injustice state : “Overall, in toto, I don't think you can say that like that. If you look at the ruins from which the GDR, so to speak, and with which reparation payments they built a new republic in a very democratic and also very anti-fascist way , then you have to say that I find that very impressive. ”The school management of the all-day high school Johannes Rau distanced itself from the statements of Gunhild Böth. According to the headmasters, "it is the private opinion of a leftist candidate for the state parliament who no longer teaches at 'our grammar school'".

In contrast, Böth refers to former Bishop Albrecht Schönherr on a more nuanced attitude, which was suppressed in the interview by abbreviation: The mere negation of the term "unjust state" does not imply a view of the GDR as a "rule of law" or the denial of its dictatorial character.
