The municipal grammar school in Haan is the only grammar school in the city of Haan .
Students, teachers and staff
The Haaner Gymnasium is currently attended by 872 students in the 2014/2015 school year, 461 of them girls and 411 boys, almost all of whom come from the hometown of Haan itself. The students are taught by 67 teachers (including substitute staff). 29 of them were newly hired in the last 10 years. In addition, two secretaries and two caretakers and two kitchen staff work at the school .
organization
The headmistress is Friederike von Wiser, the deputy headmistress is Kristina-Ottenkorthaus. There is an extended school management with Kornelia Löpke (SII), Roland Stiebel (intermediate level) and Marita Wolf-Krautwald (trial level). For each class there is a class management team made up of two teachers each, and in the upper level there are step leaders made up of two teachers each.
In addition to the New Building Steering Group and the Europaschule Steering Group, there are also several working groups on the media, health concept, health days, school program and marketing.
history
The building that was used after the establishment of the grammar school on Hochdahler Strasse was no longer up to date in 1967, so it was decided to build a new one. The new building on Adlerstrasse was inaugurated in 1969 and expanded in the following years. The school orchestra was founded in the 1970s, the school choir and the school newspaper Medium began their work. In October 1987 the school conference decided to set up a condom machine . However, the decision was later dropped and, in addition to the condomat, the candy shop in the caretaker's box was closed. A discarded railroad car that has been standing in the school's courtyard has served, among other things, as a wagon for the student council since 1989, where they can also buy exercise books or pens.
In 2017 the school celebrated its 50th anniversary.
European school
Since December 6, 2013, the grammar school has been awarded the certificate European School of the State of North Rhine-Westphalia . This honor is made possible by the European school profile, the European idea is firmly anchored in the school program. There are numerous exchange programs to France , Hungary , the Netherlands , Senegal , Argentina , Italy , Latvia , Croatia and Poland . In addition, the language certificates DELF and Cambridge are offered, as well as elective subjects in the eighth grade, either Spanish or bilingual lessons called cultural studies .
Internships abroad are also offered. Guest students from abroad are regularly accepted and an annual Europe week is held during the week of Europe Day . There are more panel discussions and classroom discussions on European topics. There was also an election simulation for the 2014 European elections . There is close cooperation with the European Union in Haan.
New building
Since the building is in need of renovation, a new building was decided in December 2012. There has been intensive new building planning since 2013. The spatial and functional program has already been approved by the Haan city council. Instead of the planned demolition in 2016, the main hall and all benches, trees and stairs in the schoolyard were demolished in September 2017. The laying of the foundation stone for the new building, which is being built on the site of the former auditorium, took place on July 9, 2018. The plan is to complete the new building at the beginning of the 2020/2021 school year in summer and then to begin with the demolition of the old building complex.
classes
The grades are usually in four classes. For the upper level there is a cooperation with the Helmholtz-Gymnasium Hilden . This enables almost all possible advanced courses to be offered for the qualification phase. Particularly noteworthy are the Latin and French courses offered at the Haaner Gymnasium. In addition, there is a cooperation with the Emil-Barth-Realschule Haan for the lower and middle grades, whereby joint programs for language certificates, facilitation of school transitions and other things can be offered. In the fifth grade there are the main subjects music / musicals, robotics and sports. These allow a deeper understanding of the material offered by increasing the number of hours in this subject.
Focus in class
MINT
The Haaner Gymnasium is one of the founding members of the NeanderLab network . The school's own robotics group participates very successfully in regional, national and European robot competitions. The students also take part very successfully in mathematics competitions such as the Mathematics Olympiad or the kangaroo competition.
The school is equipped with interactive whiteboards , media units, two computer rooms and a self-study center.
Music and art
Every year there are two major musicals and regular concerts. The school has two choirs, an orchestra and the auditorium technology team. Orchestra and choir trips as well as art exhibitions take place regularly. In addition, students take part in the art competition of the European Union in Haan every year.
Study and professional orientation
In July 2013, the school was awarded the professional seal of choice of the Bergische entrepreneurship. There is a cooperation with the Haaner company Bohle . There is also an internship in the EF class, a social internship in Q1 and internships abroad.
Other priorities
In the field of sport there is a close network with the local sports clubs and very successful student teams in handball , table tennis and basketball . The student groups have around 300 participants per semester. These include the choir and orchestra, the school medical service, the Internet AG for the homepage, the Linux AG and the Film AG.
Special funding takes place in the subject of mathematics in the form of learning offices. In German there are also grants for children with a migration background. There is also funding for talented students.
