Gunilla Paijkull (born September 5, 1943 ) is a former Swedish football player and coach.

Career

Under her maiden name Karlsson, Paijkull was one of the pioneers of women's football at AIK in the early 1970s and was used in a first - not officially recognized - international match of a Swedish women's selection against a Danish national team in 1971, although playing in a lower class . In 1973 she moved to the higher-class local rivals Hammarby IF , where she was coach from 1978.

In 1988 Paijkull succeeded Ulf Lyfors as the Swedish women's national team's supervisor . With the selection team she reached the final of the FIFA Women's Invitation Tournament in 1988 , which had been carried out as a test run for possible women's World Cup tournaments by FIFA . After a 1-0 defeat against Norway by a goal from Linda Medalen , the selection had to be content with the silver medal. Without losing points, they led the national team through qualifying for the first official World Cup finals in 1991 , where they qualified second for the quarter-finals in the semifinals and again failed to Norway. With a 4-0 win over Germany , Sweden ultimately finished third in the tournament. She then handed over the coaching position for the national team to Bengt Simonsson and later became a coach at Tyresö FF .

Later on, Paijkull worked for FIFA, accompanying several World Cup tournaments and the soccer competition at the 1996 Summer Olympics .
