Gunnar Bender

Gunnar Bender (born March 15, 1971 ) is a German lawyer and lobbyist .

Bender studied law at the Westphalian Wilhelms University in Münster and received his doctorate on a media law topic . Research stays took him to Indiana University Bloomington and the New York Law School .

From 1999 to 2003 Bender was Head of Public Affairs for AOL Germany. He then headed Political Communication for Time Warner Germany and from 2005 to 2007 corporate communications for AOL Germany. He then became VP Corporate Communications & Branding for AOL Europe. In 2008, Bender moved to Bertelsmann AG as VP Corporate Development . As of 2010, he was a member of the management team in charge of corporate communications and politics at E-Plus Mobilfunk GmbH & Co. KG. In 2012, Bender switched to Facebook , where, as Director Public Policy , he dealt with the German criticism of data protection.

In 2014 he returned briefly to Gütersloh, where he was Executive Vice President of Corporate Communications, Marketing & Public Policy for the Bertelsmann subsidiary Arvato . Bender has been Director Public Policy at Amazon since 2016 .

Bender is the author of numerous publications and has been chairman of the telecommunications, internet and media committee of the American Chamber of Commerce in Germany since the beginning of 2002 .
