Gunnar Brusewitz

Gunnar Brusewitz (* October 7, 1924 on Ekerö ; † July 10, 2004 ) was a Swedish illustrator , press illustrator and writer , who was mainly known for his animal pictures.

education

Gunnar Brusewitz studied sculpture , painting and graphics at the Kungliga Akademien för de fria konsterna in Stockholm from 1941–45 . He then worked for many Swedish daily newspapers, where he illustrated travel reports and worked as a press illustrator. As a school for an all-round draftsman, working in a newspaper office was unbeatable. He often drew on loose sheets of paper with the fountain pen. He soon developed an astonishing routine of capturing the essentials with a few strokes of ink or pencil, and he also showed himself to be a skilled portrait draftsman .

Work and life

Gunnar Brusewitz was a great nature lover, which was reflected in his innumerable depictions of animals. He was the modern Bruno Liljefors , but with a completely different style of expression. Brusewitz's love of nature also brought him to the Swedish television Sveriges television , where he presented the nature program Korsnäsgården from 1968 and also produced his own nature films. In 1980 he took part as an expedition leader in the Swedish polar expedition YMER-80 on the icebreaker Ymer , the following year he published his impressions of this trip in the book Artisk sommar .

1963-88 Brusewitz also illustrated the diplomas of the Nobel Prize in Literature. His exhibitions have been in London , Helsinki , Reykjavík , Melbourne , Mainau , Chicago and San Francisco , among others . His work is represented in the National Museum in Stockholm.
