Gunter Amler (born January 14, 1953 ) was a football player in the GDR Oberliga . In the top soccer league of the GDR he played for Chemie Böhlen and Halleschen FC Chemie .

Athletic career

The 1.80 m tall Amler, trained as an engine builder, came to the GDR league club Betriebssportgemeinschaft (BSG) Chemie Buna Schkopau for the 1976/77 season from the disbanded second team of Hallescher FC Chemie, which had last played in the second-rate GDR league . In the summer of 1978 Amler moved to the GDR league for BSG Chemie Böhlen. There he played 23 league games as a right or central defender. In his first league game on August 26, 1978, he was called up as a right defender in the match on the second match day FC Carl Zeiss Jena - Chemie Böhlen (1: 1). At the end of the 1978/79 season, Böhlen had to relegate from the league.

Amler then moved to the league representative Hallescher FC Chemie. At the beginning of the 1979/80 season, Amler replaced Andreas Broz, who was last in shape, in midfield. By the winter break, he played 12 of the 13 point games. He was then replaced by Broz again and was no longer used in the league until the end of the season. 1980/81 Amler was only a substitute for the entire season, came again only to 12 league appearances, of which he completed only six over the entire game. The 1981/82 season was Amler's last season in Halle, only in the Hinserie he played seven times in the league. He came within three seasons on 31 league appearances, in which he scored only two goals.

Amler then returned to BSG Chemie Böhlen, which had just been promoted back to the top division. There he was again provided as a defender, but could not play into the core line-up and played mainly as a full-back only 15 league games. When Böhlen was relegated from the league after a year, Amler ended his first division career at the age of 30 after six years. He still played the 1983/84 season for GDR league club TSG Chemie Markkleeberg and then moved to the third-class Halle district league for BSG Progress Weissenfels , where he finally ended his footballer career.
