Gunter Dunkel

Gunter Dunkel (born July 18, 1953 ) is an Austrian economist and entrepreneur. From 2009 to 2016 he was CEO of Norddeutsche Landesbank-Girozentrale Hannover . Since 2017 he is Chairman European Private Debt at & Muzinich Co .

Life

After attending elementary school and the federal high school in Steyr , Upper Austria, Dunkel studied at the Vienna University of Economics and Business . He received his doctorate in social and economic sciences in 1976 and at the same time obtained a Magister Juris from the University of Vienna . He began his professional career in the banking sector in 1978 at GiroCredit in Vienna as an assistant to the credit department. In 1980 he moved to McKinsey & Company in the "Strategic Management" department. From 1983 to 1996 he worked for Bayerische Hypotheken- und Wechsel-Bank AG in New York and Munich.

On January 1, 1997, Dunkel was appointed to the board of the Norddeutsche Landesbank Girozentrale (NORD / LB) and has lived in Hanover since then. Since January 1, 2007 he has been Deputy Chairman of the Management Board and with effect from January 1, 2009 he was elected Chairman of the Management Board of Nord / LB. Also in 2009 he was appointed to the board of the Association of German Public Banks, VÖB, Berlin, of which he was President from 2012. From 2009 to 2016 he was a member of the board of the German Savings Banks and Giro Association, Berlin.

Between 2010 and 2016 he was Honorary Consul for Lower Saxony for the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland . In 2018 he was accepted into the civil division of the Order of the British Empire (OBE).

Gunter Dunkel has been married to Heidelinde Dunkel since 1976. The couple has two children.

Mandates

Dunkel is a member of the supervisory boards of Continental AG , Hanover (since April 2009) and DEVnet Equity Partners AG (2019). He is President of the Lower Saxony Foundation and is active in various boards of trustees and committees. Among other things, he is the spokesman for the board of trustees of the German AIESEC , patron of the outpatient palliative and hospice service in Hanover and a member of the board of trustees of the Hanover Opera Foundation. As managing director of Dunkel.investments GmbH, he invests in young companies such as B. in a Europe-wide healthcare crowdfunding platform . With Directors Academy Financial Services GmbH, he is involved as a partner in the training of supervisory boards using a multimedia online collection of knowledge.

Together with his wife he supports the Dunkel.foundation for human rights.
