scandal

In 2004 he was temporarily suspended as full professor by the President of the University of Giessen. The complaint of a previous employee for conducting clinical trials without the approval of the ethics committee and without the consent of the patients led to nationwide house searches of his senior physicians. The case was dropped due to lack of evidence. The process appeared in a different light in 2010. Joachim Boldt - one of his former senior physicians who had completed his habilitation with him - was dismissed. This happened because of the falsification of clinical trials or the implementation of clinical trials without an ethical vote and patient consent. More than 100 of his publications have been withdrawn, including joint ones with Hempelmann. Boldt and Hempelmann together wrote more than 180 publications in Giessen.
