Gus Owen

Gus A. Owen (born December 2, 1933 in Checotah , Oklahoma ) is an American businessman. He was a member of the American regulatory authority Surface Transportation Board .

Life

Gus Owen grew up on a leasehold farm in Oklahoma. When he was 15, he moved to California and began working in the orange fields. He served in the Marine Corps from 1952 to 1955 and participated in the Korean War. He then attended several colleges until 1960. In addition, he was employed as a worker and employee at various companies until 1965.

From 1965 to 1970 he worked in a senior position for the Republican Party in California. In 1971 he founded the real estate company Owen Properties Inc.

Between 1972 and 1978 he was a member of the California State Building Standards Commission. From 1981 to 1984 he was Chairman of the Credit and Audit Committee of Bank Seaside Savings and Loan. In 1991 he became a member of the California Fish and Game Commission. In 1994 he was nominated for the Interstate Commerce Commission by US President Bill Clinton and approved by the United States Senate. He took office on October 4, 1994. Until the end of this authority on December 31, 1995 he worked for it. From January 1, 1996 to December 31, 1998, he was a member of the first governing body of the newly created Surface Transportation Board. He was succeeded by Wayne O. Burkes .

Gus Owen is married and has three children. He lives in Orange County , California.
