Gustav Bartsch
Gustav Bartsch (born July 12, 1821 in Gleiwitz , † July 18, 1906 in Dresden ) was a German illustrator and portrait and genre painter.
As early as 1836, at the age of 15, Bartsch showed a pen drawing at a Berlin art exhibition. He married Clara Friederike Georgine von Strombeck. Bartsch lived in Dresden- Blasewitz , was active on the Dresden art scene.
Bartsch illustrated books by Otto Hoffmann, Rudolf Scipio, Walter Scott , James Fenimore Cooper , Theodor Mügge and Thomas Mayne Reid .
Many of his oil paintings are only preserved in the form of lithographs.
