Gustav Flor

Gustav August Adam Flor (born August 13, 1829 in Alt-Salis , Livonia Gouvernement , † May 13, 1883 in Dorpat ) was a Livonian ( Baltic German ) entomologist .

Flor studied from 1847 zoology and from 1852 medicine at the Imperial University of Dorpat , where he received his doctorate in medicine in 1856 (Rhynchotorum livonicorum descriptio). From 1857 to 1859 he continued his zoology and medicine studies in Prague, Vienna, Montpellier and Paris. In 1860 he became a lecturer, in 1861 an associate professor and in 1862 a full professor of zoology in Dorpat. From 1860 he headed the University's Zoological Cabinet (later the Zoological Museum).

He specialized in Schnabelkerfe (Hemiptera, Rhynchota) and wrote a monograph on the Schnabelkerfe of Livonia.

His insect collection is in the Zoological Museum of the University of Tartu.
