Gustav Freiherr von Gemmingen-Hornberg

Gustav Weiprecht Maria Freiherr von Gemmingen-Hornberg (born April 7, 1925 in Darmstadt ; † January 30, 2005 ) was a German farmer and politician ( FDP / DVP ). From 1952 he managed the estate in Treschklingen , where he was mayor from 1954 to 1970 and shaped the image of the place through the development of several new development areas and the later demolition of the farm buildings. From 1967 to 1969 he was a member of the German Bundestag , where he was deputy chairman of the committee for development aid.

Life and work

He was the son of the Hessian administrative officer Adolph Anton von Gemmingen (1886–1963) and Maria Freiin von Nordeck zur Rabenau (1890–1988). When Gustav was young, his father was the district director in Bingen. After attending school and high school in Darmstadt, Gemmingen-Hornberg was drafted into the Wehrmacht , took part as a soldier in World War II and was finally taken prisoner. He then completed a university course in Weihenstephan , which he completed in 1951 with an examination as a qualified farmer. He then managed the castle estate in Treschklingen , which has belonged to the family since the 16th century and had been leased to Südzucker until 1952 . From the same year he was a member of the Treschklingen municipal council. In 1954 he was elected mayor of Treschklingen and held this office until the town was incorporated into Bad Rappenau on January 1st, 1971. During his tenure, several new building areas were developed, and he gave the community the land required for the construction of a school and sports field.

Through his work as a member of the Bundestag, he was entrusted with development aid tasks. After the Biafra War , he worked as a development aid worker in Africa around 1970 for five years. At that time, his second wife Gudrun ran the local manor in addition to her weaving master workshop.

He belonged to several agricultural associations and cooperatives.

For health reasons, he later leased the estate in Treschklingen again. In 1990 the farm buildings of the manor were demolished, from the mid-1990s the new town center of Treschklingen with a community center and modern residential development was built on the vacated areas.

Political party

Gemmingen-Hornberg joined the FDP / DVP in 1960 . From 1962 he was deputy chairman of the FDP / DVP district association in North Baden and was elected chairman of the FDP / DVP district association in Mosbach in 1964 .

MP

Gemmingen-Hornberg belonged to the German Bundestag from October 11, 1967, when he replaced the retired MP Hans Lenz , until 1969. He was drawn into parliament via the state list of Baden-Württemberg . In the Bundestag he was deputy chairman of the committee for development aid .
