Gustav Hess (also Heß ) (born July 4, 1874 in Bertelsdorf ; † June 4, 1940 in Coburg ) was a farmer and politician in the Duchy of Saxe-Coburg and Gotha and in the Free State of Coburg .

Life

Hess managed the inherited farm, which had been in his family since the 17th century.

In the state elections in 1912 he was elected to the Coburg state parliament. In the state parliament he belonged to the agrarian faction. Together with the parliamentary group of the National Liberal Party (NLP), each with four mandates (the state parliament had eleven seats), it was the strongest parliamentary group. After the November Revolution he became chairman of the farmers 'council at the 1st Coburg Farmers' Day in December 1918. As a representative of the Coburg farmers' association, he ran for the state assembly of the Free State of Coburg on the civil unity list in 1919 and was elected as one of the four civic members of this list (the SPD had achieved a majority and had seven members). In the state parliament he was a committed advocate of a connection between Coburg and Prussia and against the (then decided) affiliation with Bavaria .

From 1919 he was a member of the executive board of the Coburg State Foundation. In 1923 he was honored with the title of an economics councilor . He belonged to a number of public bodies such as the Hospital Association and the Chamber of Farmers.

After the seizure of power by the Nazis, he was persecuted and had six weeks before the Sturmabteilung (SA) can hide.
