Gustav Langweg (born April 30, 1897 in Oberhausen- Osterfeld ; † August 14, 1950 in Mülheim an der Ruhr ) was Lord Mayor of Mülheim an der Ruhr from April 12 to May 6, 1945 .

Life

Gustav Theodor Langweg grew up in (Oberhausen-) Osterfeld. After graduating from the humanistic grammar school in Bottrop and serving as a reserve lieutenant in the First World War, he studied political science at the University of Münster . He completed his studies in 1923 with a doctorate and joined the Oberhausen city administration as a research assistant. In 1924 he was appointed head of the municipal welfare office.

In 1930, Langweg was elected as an alderman in Mülheim an der Ruhr. After leaving the Center Party , he joined the NSDAP , which ensured his continued employment under the National Socialist regime. In April 1945, after Edwin Hasenjaeger's dismissal, the American military government first appointed him acting mayor, but then dismissed him shortly afterwards in May of the same year and subjected him to a denazification process . At the end of the proceedings, he was classified in Category IV, which means that he was exonerated. Since a reinstatement in the municipal administration was not possible for technical reasons, Langweg was retired in 1949 by a resolution of the main committee while maintaining his salary.

He died after a serious illness a year later at the age of 53.
