Nordström, who won a total of three medals in the junior class at world championships in ski orienteering, achieved his first top 10 placements in the Scandinavian Cup in Albu in February 2012 with fourth place in the sprint and ninth place over 15 km classic. In March 2012 he won the Swedish 7-Mila ski marathon over 70 km classic. In the 2012/13 season he took part in several races of the US Super Tour , where he was able to place three times in the top ten. Nordström made his debut in the Cross-Country World Cup in January 2013 at the sprint in Liberec , where he scored his first World Cup point with 30th place. At his next starts in the World Cup he missed the points in December 2013 in Asiago with 62nd place in the sprint and 43rd in the first sprint in Davos on December 14, 2014. A week later, Nordström placed 15th in the second World Cup sprint in Davos.

Nordström is the brother of Maria Nordström , who is also a cross-country skier.
