Gustaf Sjokvist

Gustaf Sjökvist (born December 7, 1943 - † February 15, 2015 ) was a Swedish conductor , royal court organist, choir director and university professor.

He studied conducting with Karl Münchinger , among others, and was cathedral choirmaster at Stockholm Cathedral from 1967 to 1981 . Since 1981 he was the cathedral organist there. Between 1986 and 1994 Gustaf Sjökvist was the chief conductor of the Swedish Radio Choir . Since 1988 he has been a member of the Royal Swedish Academy of Music and its president since 2013. In 1991 he was appointed professor. In 1998 he was awarded the Royal Medal Litteris et Artibus and in 2007 the Medal of the Royal Academy of Music. Sjökvist died on February 15, 2015 at the age of 71.
