Gustav Toepke

Rudolf Heinrich Gustav Toepke (born March 26, 1841 in Magdeburg , † June 28, 1899 in Heidelberg ) was a German lawyer and historian.

Life

Toepke attended the school of the monastery Our Dear Women in Magdeburg as well as the grammar school in Stendal , where he passed the Abitur examination in 1861. He then studied law at the universities of Jena and Berlin . In Jena he became a member of the Corps Thuringia . In 1866 he passed the auscultation exam, in 1867 the trainee exam. For health reasons, he retired from civil service in 1871 and retired to the Schlossgut Freienfels in Bavaria for a few years . He later moved to Heidelberg and devoted himself to historical studies. In addition to the publication of smaller papers, Toepke took over the processing and publication of the register of Ruprecht-Karls-Universität for the university anniversary in 1886 . He died shortly before the end of the project, which was continued by Paul Hintzelmann.

Awards

The Philosophical Faculty of Heidelberg University appointed Toepke an honorary doctorate . He was also bearer of the Knight's Cross 1st Class of the Order of the Zähringer Lion and the Knight's Cross of the Military and Civil Merit Order of Adolph von Nassau. In 1896 he was appointed court advisor to the Grand Duke of Baden.
