Gustav von Leonhard
Gustav von Leonhard (born November 12, 1816 in Munich , † December 27, 1878 in Heidelberg ) was a German geologist and mineralogist . He was the son of the mineralogist Karl Caesar von Leonhard .
Life
Leonhard grew up in Heidelberg and studied mineralogy and other natural sciences with his father. In 1840 he received his doctorate with the mineralogical-geognostic description of the area around Schriesheim, with special consideration of the porphyries occurring on the Bergstrasse . After further studies at the University of Berlin , Leonhard completed his habilitation in 1841. After working as a private lecturer in Heidelberg, he was appointed to the chair for mineralogy at the University of Heidelberg in 1853 .
After the death of his father, Leonhard continued in his place from 1862 the editing of the "New Yearbook for Mineralogy, Geology and Paleontology" together with Heinrich Georg Bronn . From 1863 until his death, Hanns Bruno Geinitz became his partner.
