from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Gustav Franz Maria von Thurn und Taxis (born August 22, 1888 in Dresden , † April 30, 1919 in Munich ) was a Prince of Thurn and Taxis .

family

Gustav was the fourth child and second son of Prince Franz von Thurn und Taxis (1852-1897) and his wife, Countess Theresia Grimaud d'Orsay (1861-1947). Through his father he was the grandson of Maximilian Karl von Thurn and Taxis (1802–1871) and Mathilde Sophie, Princess of Oettingen-Oettingen and Oettingen-Spielberg (1816–1886).

Life

Gustav von Thurn und Taxis studied philosophy at the Eberhard Karls University in Tübingen . He took part in the First World War.

After the end of the war he became a member of the right-wing extremist Thule Society founded in 1918 .

At the time of the Bavarian Soviet Republic , he joined other members of the Thule Society, including Hella Countess von Westarp (* 1886), and other right-wing conservatives who were also arrested and who were not members, including art professor Ernst Berger (* 1857) on April 30, 1919 Luitpold-Gymnasium murdered by the military police of the Soviet Republic.

The exact course of the hostage murder was described in contradicting terms from different sides, and fluctuates between a direct shooting and a cruel slaughter and mutilation with bayonets and rifle butts.

The Italian nuncio Eugenio Pacelli , who was present in Munich during the time of the Soviet Republic , said:

“The nunciature itself was riddled with bullets during the struggle between communists and republican government forces. Armed Spartacists entered here by force, and when I vigorously protested against this violation of international law, one of them threatened me with his revolver. I know the despicable manner in which the hostages were murdered. "
