Gustavo Fernández , full name Gustavo Daniel Fernández Figueroa , (born February 16, 1952 in Montevideo ) is a former Uruguayan football player .

Career

society

Goalkeeper Fernández played from 1973 to 1975 in the Primera División for Rentistas from Montevideo . He then moved to Europe and joined Sevilla FC in Spain . There he ran from 1975 to 1980 a total of 56 times in the top Spanish league. In the 1980/81 season, eleven more games for Real Murcia followed . Then he was a member of the Peñarols squad in the Primera División from 1982 to 1984 . With the Aurinegros he won the Uruguayan championship, the Copa Libertadores and the World Cup in this period in 1982 . In the following year he reached the final of the Copa Libertadores 1983 with his team . There, however, the Montevideans lost to Gremio Porto Alegre from Brazil .

National team

Fernández was a member of the senior national team of Uruguay , for which he completed six international matches between March 23, 1974 and May 8, 1974. In his international career, he had to accept seven goals. Fernández was part of the Uruguayan squad at the 1974 World Cup . There it was not used in the course of the competition.
