Gustavo Sondermann

Gustavo Sondermann (born February 17, 1982 in São Paulo ; † April 3, 2011 there ) was a Brazilian racing driver .

Career

Sondermann began his motorsport career in 1998 in kart racing , in which he was active until 2001. In 2002 he moved to the Formula racing and went two years in the Brazilian Formula Renault at. After finishing fifth in his first season, he finished thirteenth in 2003. He also competed in the North American Formula Renault in 2003, which he finished in 16th overall. In 2004 Sondermann moved to Europe and started half a season in the British Formula Renault. He finished two races in the top three and finished 14th in the drivers' championship at the end of the season. He then competed in the US Formula Renault winter series and finished third in the championship. In 2005 Sondermann did not get a contract as a driver and only made two guest starts for Comtec Racing in the Formula Renault 2.0 Eurocup .

In 2006 Sondermann returned to Brazil and switched to touring car racing . He started in the Stock Car Brasil Light and finished his first season in eighth place in the drivers' standings. In 2007, Sondermann stayed with Stock Car Brasil Light. He won a race, stood on the podium four times and finished the season in third place. This result was overshadowed by the fatal accident of his teammate Rafael Sperafico at the season finale in Interlagos .

In 2008 Sondermann played his third season in the Stock Car Brasil Light. He did not manage to build on the good results of the previous year and finished 21st overall. He was also active in Pick Up Racing Brazil in 2008 and won the championship title in this series. In 2009, Sondermann won two races of the Stock Car Brasil Light and finished the season in fourth place in the championship. In 2010 he competed in both Stock Car Brasil and Stock Car Brasil Light. While he finished the Stock Car Brasil on the 31st championship course, he finished eleventh in the Stock Car Brasil Light with a win. He also took part in races in the Brazilian Mini Challenge and the Brazilian GT4 Championship this season.

In 2011 Sondermann wanted to contest his sixth season in the Stock Car Brasil Light. At the season opener in Interlagos, however, he died after an accident in the Curva do Café . He spun in the rain and was hit by several vehicles. He was taken to a hospital where his brain death was determined. Sondermann was 29 years old. The accident was similar to Rafael Sperafico's fatal accident in the 2007 season.
